Beacon of Hope Event
Thank you to all who helped us celebrate 45 years of
The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands at the Beacon of Hope event.
Thank you!
Thank you for making The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands’ Beacon of Hope event for World Suicide Prevention Day a success. If you were able to join us, you heard the inspirational story of healing and hope from Kevin Berthia. It was an evening of community and camaraderie.
We also shared the substantial growth and changes that have taken place at the Cape Samaritans, not only over the last 45 years but especially since the onset of the pandemic. We shared how in 2020, Congress assigned the new 988 dialing code to operate through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (Lifeline) network of local call centers.
As an accredited Lifeline Crisis Center, Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands recognized how this represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change how crisis services are delivered in the U.S. and in our local community. Here on the Cape, we extended call center hours to 24/7/365 and increased staffing to accommodate the increased call volume delivered by 988. We are expanding grief services and investing in evidence-based materials and resources to strengthen all of our programs.
With a history of forty-five years of service delivery, The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands is growing to keep pace with our community’s needs.
If you weren’t able to be there but would like to support Samaritans’ programs, please consider making a donation to help us further our reach.
With gratitude,
Stephanie Kelly
